Personal auto insurance is regulated by many states and provides you with financial protection in the event of an accident. But is that enough? What are the options? Learn how to use insurance of car and different types of insurance.

Understanding dream insurance — the basics
Insurance coverage is a contract between you and the insurer that protects you from losses in the event of an accident or theft. In exchange for your payment of a premium, the insurance company agrees to pay for your losses as outlined in your policy.

Insurance coverage provides coverage:

Property – such as damage to your car theft
Liability – your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage Medical – the cost of treating injuries, repairs and sometimes loss of pay and funeral arrangements
Personal auto insurance is regulated by many US states, and laws vary. The premium car insurance premiums (a la carte) allow you to customize the coverage to suit your needs and expenses.

Policies are usually issued for six months or one year and are renewable. The insurance company will send you a notice when it is time to renew the policy and pay your premium.

Who does my auto insurance cover – and under what circumstances?

Injury – which includes costs associated with injuries or death caused by you or another driver while driving your car.

Damage to property – which reimburses others for harming you or another driver who is using your vehicle to cause another car or other property, such as a fence, house or utility pole.

Pay for medical treatment or injury prevention (PIP), which provides reimbursement for medical expenses for you or your passengers. It will also include lost wages and other expenses.
